Lawyers are prohibited from safeguarding of conflicting interests owing to state rules governing the professions (sec. 43a para. 4 BRAO). Prior to accepting new client representation, a conflict of interests check will be carried out.

In the event of disputes between lawyers and their clients there is, on application, the possibility of an extrajudicial dispute conciliation in the Düsseldorf Regional Bar Association (pursuant to sec. 73 para. 2 Nr. 3 i.V.m. sec. 73 para. 5 BRAO) or at the conciliation board of the Federal Bar Association (sec. 191f BRAO) of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers, which can be found in the web via the website of the Federal Chamber of Lawyers (www.brak.de).
